Striking
At BCBJJ, our striking instruction includes boxing and kickboxing styles.
Boxing is a combat sport focused primarily on striking with the fists. It has a long history and is often considered one of the most fundamental striking arts.
Techniques:
Punches: Boxers use various types of punches, including jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts.
Footwork: Footwork is crucial in boxing. It involves moving in and out, side to side, and pivoting to create angles and avoid punches.
Defense: Defensive techniques include slipping, ducking, blocking, and parrying punches.
Kickboxing combines elements of boxing with kicking techniques. It incorporates strikes with both the hands and feet, making it a more versatile striking art.
Techniques:
Punches: Like boxing, kickboxing includes punches such as jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts.
Kicks: Kickboxers use various kicks, including front kicks, roundhouse kicks, side kicks, and back kicks.
Knees and Elbows: In some styles of kickboxing (like Muay Thai), knee and elbow strikes are also utilized.
Footwork: Kickboxing footwork is similar to boxing but often involves more movement to set up kicks and maintain distance.
Both boxing and kickboxing offer intense cardiovascular workouts, improve striking skills, and are effective for self-defense. They also each have their own distinct styles and strategies, making them unique and valuable in their own right.
